Middle School

Are you worried about going to middle school? Believe me, everyone worries about some aspect of it. Post your worries here so we can talk about them. Be sure to read the comments of your classmates too. You might be surprised to find that others share the same worries.

I am worried about forgetting my locker combination. It took me about 2 weeks to remember my new cell phone number.

I am very scared about lockers and switching classes. What if I don't get there on time? What if I forget my locker combination? What if I lost on my way to class?

I am very unsure on what middle school will be like,

I am reading a book that has some good tips for middle school, like where to sit in the classroom, when to go to the bathroom, and other things middle school kids will have to go through.

I posted this same question on my class blog. My students are going to middle school and have the same worries. Don't worry, you'll be able to remember that locker combination after using it only a couple of times.

Buy a lock this summer and practice. That is what I did for Logan. You'll be more comfortable opening one in August. My daughter got use to middle school very quickly. The hardest part was not having me there since she'd been with me at WES since she was 4~ 6th grade teachers are more understanding the first few weeks and they will help you a lot.
You guys are awesome and you will excel in middle school and make us all proud!

I am very scared of middle school not only because there will be a lot of people I don't know but because I won't make good grades. I think I'll do good with my locker combination because I'm good with memorizing numbers(ex. telephone numbers)

Mrs. Richardson, I am scared of being left out and no being cool because I don't have a cell phone and my parents won't let me have one. They say I'll have to wait until I'm old enough to pay for it myself.

I would like to stay anonymous though I still want my issue to be discussed.

P.S. I don't really have what you call cool clothes like a lot of people and I'm not the richest family in the world. Please tell me some advice!!!

I understand how you feel about the cell phone issue, but on a positive note, you can't use them at school or you will get them taken away. You are NOT the only one who doesn't have a cell phone. My daughter lost hers and was without one for almost a year. It is another monthly bill and many of us can't afford that right now. Be patient, as you get older (13-14) maybe your parents will change their minds. What do the rest of you think? Are there other people who don't have cell phones yet?

Cool clothes...that's a tough one. I know how important clothes are to kids. I was a t-shirt and jeans girl in middle school. I personally don't believe that people are judged on what they wear, but who they are on the inside. Be a person you can respect and you will attract the right type of friends. You don't want "fake" friends who only care about clothes and money. Be Yourself....

Dear Anonymous,
This is for the person who isn't the richest in the world.

I know everyone wants to make a great appearance in school but to do this you don't have to wear the clothes in the lastest style. When you cam here in Kindergarten you only cared about running around at reccess and learning your ABC's. You really didn't care about your apperance then. I am not saying totally forget about it all just don't fret over it. There will be some girls and boys wearing the latest clothes if they can afford it but there will also be some just like you. You won't be the only one like in all the movies and books. The movies and books are to entertain you not to scare you. Be yourself and no matter how somebody treats you changing your stlye is not really changing you. You'll do great!

dear anonymous,
Many people do not have very much money, and probrobly cant afford new clothes because there is the cost of food, shelter, and other nessesities that are more important. Wearing old clothes wil help them out until they can afford to get you some new clothes. Also, in middle school, there are some people who care about that kind of thing, but the reason your in middle school, is to LEARN, NOT to discriminate people of their clothing! Just remind yourself that wearing these clothes will help your parents out!

Dear Anonymous,
Your parents are giving you the responsibility to pay for your own things and start being responsible for yourself. When you grow up, your mom or dad wouldnt be paying your bills, would they? Just like your parents, you will need to fend for yourself someday, and they want you to be ready. Also, many people in middle school do not have cell phones, and probrobly have parents who think the same thing. And if you have true friends, they wouldnt judge you by weather you have a cell phone or not!

The only reason you are at middle school is to LEARN! Not to try to be cool. And there are some people at middle school who don't care about how you look. Some people just care how you act.

Dear Anonymous,

This is for the girl or boy who doesn't have a cell phone.

The people who have cell phones are more likely to loose them and get in trouble when they take them to school. Here are 2 examples. What if yuo forget to turn your phone off before a test and it rings. There is big trouble for you. Or what if yuo misplace it adn somebody steals it. Then yuo definetly won't get another phone until you could pay for it. You might think it's hard saving up for a phone but if you focus on the nice but not exspensive ones yuo could save up in no time. Check out HTC. They have great deals on phones. You know at HTC they give away a free phone every week. The packages cost money though like unlimited minutes and texting as long as you remember to be responsible you could a free phone like that or a 40 to 50 dollar phone by paying fro it. See, I don't know much about the packages but if you save up adn yuor parents think your responsible like you clean the house make the bed do your laundry, I bet they will let you try out a knew phone. JUst help more around the house. You'll be surprised how it works and what you can get!
